Reflections

What I have learnt in Semester 2:

I have learnt about architecture and certain aspects of it which affect the design of building.

Difficulties Encountered:

2) The process of building the model using Google Sketchup.

How did you overcome them?

3) I just did because it was what I had to do. Also, I somewhat enjoyed doing the project using Google Sketchup because it was fun to design a building so easily.

How do you think you can do better

4) Elaborate more about the sections research in my journal.

Community Centre

I want to build a community centre as I find that it is very useful and it will encourage people to lead a healthy lifestyle. Also, there are many people in people in the area, be it young or old, who exercise regularly and lead a healthy lifestyle. They usually exercise alone, and where they go to exercise are not appropriate for exercising, such as beside roads. Although there are some places which provide facilities for exercising, but they are either too far away, or require money to use each time you enter. This building will give people the opportunity to exercise regularly and enjoy themselves with their friends and family.

The concept behind my design would be that the community centre is actually enclosed by a running track. which stretches an entire circle around the community centre. Also, are multiple buildings are areas within the community centre which accomodate for different activities. This will give the users a feeling that they are in a "mini-town".

What makes a good Architectural Design?

A building should meet obligations of commodity(utility), firmness and delight.

Commodity addresses how a building serves its function and can be made more useful to the occupants.

Firmness means endurance, or a building's ability to stand up to natural forces over time.

Delight refers to aesthetics. Aesthetics is a branch of philosophy devoted to beauty. It dissects the visual compositional elements like proportion and line, as well as other formal qualities—auditory, tactile, olfactory, thermal, and even kinesthetic—that achieve beauty.

Architecture often includes design or selection of furnishings and decorations, supervision of construction work, and the examination, restoration, or remodeling of existing buildings.

The selection of architectural elements, their interaction, and the constraints on those elements and their interactions…Design is concerned with the modularization and detailed interfaces of the design elements, their algorithms and procedures, and the data types needed to support the architecture and to satisfy the requirements.
